NB Power is seeking another $4 a month from the average New Brunswick family at the hearing this week with the Provincial Energy and Utilites Board.
The request represents an increase of two per cent across all customer classes.
At the hearing in Saint John, NB Power’s Keith Cronkhite spoke about ductless heat pumps and how some homeowners were buying low priced and possibly less efficient units which don’t work well in colder weather.
He says the program was centered around trying to shift the market to look at more efficient units to adopt those so they could see a greater load reduction on the system during colder days in the winter period.
As part of the hearing, the EUB is hosting a public session tomorrow night at 6pm at the Delta Brunswick.
In a news release, NB Power says it welcomes these sessions because they are a way for the utility and the EUB to learn more about what customers care about.
