Elections NB says things went very smoothly for Monday night’s municipal elections.
Chief Electoral Officer Mike Quinn says from their perspective, it was a good night, “There’s always delays here and there in getting results telephoned in on time and getting uploads. When you have so many workers in the field and so much activity, but all and all, it went extremely smoothly. By 10:30, we had all of the results either uploaded or telephoned in. It always takes much longer to get those memory cards driven back to the returning offices, but we’re happy with how things went.”
We did hear a few concerns to our newsroom about delays in the results being posted online, and the posting of results appeared to be stalled at one point. Elections NB told us on election night, that with the number of people who are on their site getting results, it can overload the server, and cause slowdowns.
Quinn is hoping that in the fall, they would like to pilot in the first set of byelections, the system of having the results transferred directly from the polling stations to the central database.
