This current iteration of Saint John council led by mayor Mel Norton is exiting on a high note with the Urban Report Survey by Corporate Research Associates showing satisfaction with the municipal government is up by 14-percent from last quarter.
The CRA survey shows that six in 10 Saint Johners, or 68-percent, are satisfied with council’s performance. In July of this year the CRA will evaluate the performance of the new council lead by Don Darling who was elected mayor of Saint John in the municipal election on Monday night. Mayor Mel Norton recently announced that he is running for the leadership of the provincial Progressive Conservative Party.
The new mayor and council will be sworn in on May 24 with the first regular meeting on May 30.
On a different note the survey also shows that consumer confidence among Saint Johners has gone up as well. It is at 95.5 which is an increase of 81.3 from three months ago.
