Two athletes and four coaches from New Brunswick are headed for Austria next year.
The Special Olympics athletes will compete against others from about 170 countries as they participate in the the Austria World Winter Games.
Executive Director of Special Olympics New Brunswick Josh Astel tells us the names of the athletes chosen to compete, “The two athletes from New Brunswick are Veronique Leblanc, who is a speed skater from the Moncton area, and Jennifer Jackson, who is from Woodstock and she is a snowshoer.”
An RCMP officer from Fredericton will also be going with the team. Sam McInnis will be taking part in the Final Leg of the Torch Run in Austria. He’ll be among 80 Law Enforcement Officers from around the world running with the torch. He is also a dedicated volunteer with Special Olympics in Capital Region and sits on their Committee as a Director at Large.
Astel says they’ve all worked really hard, and they’ll continue their training until March next year, that’s when they’ll make the trip.
