A priority for Horizon Health is to have a better relationship with the people who live in First Nations communities.
Horizon’s Public Health Director Ginette Pellerin concedes there’s a lack of trust that has to be overcome. As an example, Pellerin points out if they feel they’re being rushed through an appointment it’s because they’re aboriginal since they have never felt on equal footing.
She does add when the First Nations have input and feel they’ve been listened to, the outcome is far better.
Anger is slowing down the effort of the Horizon Health Network to establish a better relationship with First Nations. So says Natalie Sappier, an aboriginal artist but she adds that doesn’t mean you should give up trying.
Sappier also say art enabled her to deal with her own mental health issues.
