After raising $3 milliion dollars through the community, the Marco Polo still doesn’t have a home.
Barry Odgen has been spearheading the initiative for over thirty years. He says the ship has been ready for the last five years.
Odgen says it’s the story of the fastest ship in the world and one of the greatest time periods in Saint John history, and “we’re holding it back”.
He says a lot of people have approached him and think the Marco Polo should be placed in the Water Street Market Slip area
Odgen says transportation for the ship across the Harbour Bridge has already been paid for, they just don’t have a place for it yet.
He says the Waterfront Development Committee will make the final decision involving where to place the Marco Polo, but admits they haven’t been easy to deal with and calls the delays “frustrating”.
We’ve reached out for a comment from the Waterfront Development Committee, but have yet to hear back.
