Voter turnout in the most recent municipal election was almost identical to the last vote in 2012.
Elections NB says about 35 percent of eligible voters cast ballots.
The province’s chief electoral officer Mike Quinn says the number may seem low but many communities had no elections at all due to acclamations.
“Where you have that, it has a big impact on the voter turnout for the municipal contests,” he notes.
Quinn adds mayors were acclaimed in almost half of all municipalities in New Brunswick which means there were no contests.
