The executive director of the 2021 Games of La Francophonie begins work this week.
Eric Larocque has been tasked with helping to organize an event being hosted by Moncton and Dieppe which will attract athletes and coaches from 80 countries around the globe.
Despite what the name may suggest, Larocque says the sporting and cultural event is open to anglophones and francophones.
“Last time in Nice, France, the team of wresting representing New Brunswick came from UNB. So anglophones and francophones can (both) participate in those games,” he notes.
Larocque, who has a background in sports and the non-profit sector, says the next six months will be critical in hiring staff and volunteers.
