Almost 300,000 people around the globe share the surname of Steeves.
Moncton’s founding family can be traced back 250 years to one prolific couple, Heinrich and Regina Stief.
Organizers of a giant family reunion this summer are continuing their efforts to reach out to members of the Steeves family.
Spokesperson Sara Robinson says when the first settlers arrived in 1766, surviving the climate and gathering food was a real challenge.
“To their benefit, the Acadians specifically the Belliveau family as well as some of the First Nations people came and helped them learn and taught them how to survive,” says Robinson.
A week-long Steeves family reunion is being held in July with events planned in Moncton and Hillsborough.
