The Opposition Conservatives are asking for a moratorium with the provincial government’s policy of free tuition for low and middle income students.
Interim Conservative leader Bruce Fitch says tuition will be free for only those students who attend publicly funded colleges and universities but students who attend private post secondary learning institutions are excluded and that`s not right.
The Premier says the government is trying to help publicly funded learning institutions that face a big challenge in attracting enough students and is making a post secondary education accessible to those who need financial help to attend.
Fitch argues the province still has 25 million dollars left over with cuts to student aid programs but Premier Gallant disputes that. He claims the province is spending 40 million dollars on student aid.
