A big “Save the Gagetown Ferry” rally was staged outside the Legislature with a large crowd turning out to protest the loss of the Gagetown Ferry.
The Conservative M-L-A for Moncton Southwest, Sherry Wilson says the ferry was targeted by a previous Liberal government under then Premier Shawn Graham. Wilson says it appears the Liberals have a hate on for rural New Brunswick. she calls the ferry service a key link in the rural transportation system in the southern part of the province.
The demonstrators could be heard chanting “We want the Premier”.
Saint John East M-L-A Glen Savoie says Premier Brian Gallant should have shown the strength of character to go out and meet with the demonstrators to explain why the decision was made to shut down the ferry service which is what other Premiers have done.
