The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says drivers are being ripped off by the practice of the federal and provincial governments of charging the HST on top of the other taxes you pay for gasoline which amount to 39 per cent of the cost.
With the HST going up by two-percent at the beginning of July, Kevin Lacey, the Atlantic Director of the Taxpayers Federation, says even more money will be taken from your wallet.
Lacey estimates drivers in the province will be paying almost 4 cents a litre just to pay taxes on other taxes and this will amount to more than 49 million dollars over the course of a year.
