For the 8th year, the Teens Who Care Awards will be handed out tonight at the Lily Lake Pavilion to ten young people who were nominated for their volunteerism in the city.
June Breau-Nason of the Teen Resource Centre hopes recognising young people for going above and beyond in the community will disspell some negative stereotypes about teens. She claims many people would be surprised at the extent of volunteerism in the city by young people.
She says many young Saint Johnners went out of their way to not only welcome young Syrian refugees to their schools but help them settle in with their language skills, academics and the social scene after they arrived in the city.
