The new mayor of Saint John says all levels of government have to work together to move the city forward and calls it a positive signal that premier Brian Gallant, Saint John Harbour MLA Dr. Ed Doherty and Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long were there for the swearing in ceremony.
Don Darling says he’s already met with the mayors of Quispamsis and Rothesay and those three plan on meeting soon with the mayor of Grand Bay Westfield to talk about collaboration and there is a plan to meet over the next four weeks or so with the new mayors of Fredericton and Moncton.
“My approach is to look for small opportunities and small wins first, not look for huge wins which often end up being too complex and very difficult to negotiate,” says Darling, “so why don’t we find some small areas to collaborate and get some small wins first.”
Darling says the newly-sworn in council are going to set their priorities over the summer months.
