While some MP’s are praising Canadian Ambassador Kevin Vickers for tackling a protestor in Dublin, not everyone is supportive judging by all the tweets.
The incident happened at a ceremony to commemorate the deaths of British soldiers in the 1916 Easter uprising.
The Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association is calling on the Irish government to demand an official apology from Canadian authorities and the immediate removal of Vickers as ambassador, accusing him of interfering with the right of an Irish citizen to peacefully protest in his own country.
The statement goes on to say not only did Vickers interfere with the right of an Irish citizen to peacefully protest in his own country, he undermined the role of the Irish state and the Garda authority to deal with such protests.
MP’s Jason Kenny and Michelle Rempel praised Vickers for his intervention with Kenny tweeting who needs superheroes when you’ve got Kevin Vickers.
