The Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association is concerned about the aging demographic in the trucking industry which could lead to serious shortages in the years ahead.
The biggest shortage right now is truck drivers and statistics show in only four years, Canada will need at least 25,000 drivers.
APTA executive director Jean Marc Picard says there are also many other opportunities available in the industry.
“We’re also looking for dispatchers and logistics managers and things like that. There are some great companies in New Brunswick with some great opportunities,” he notes.
Picard notes 99 percent of those who graduate from a 12-week training program find employment soon after.
Training centres can be found throughout Atlantic Canada.
