The New Brunswick Medical Society is weighing in on medically assisted dying by calling on the Senate to pass legislation by June 6th, warning doctors and patients will be left without clear government direction on the procedure if it’s not.
The President of the New Brunswick Medical Society, Dr. John Whalen says doctors are seeking final clarity from regulators on the details which remain up in the air which include what protections are in place for doctors and who’s eligible for the procedure.
Dr. Whalen says it’s time for the federal government to get its act in gear and adds with Senate approval expected to be contentious, it’s unlikely many doctors will participate without more regulatory certainty.
