With word that Moosehead Breweries is going to be opening up a new small-batch brewery in Saint John and are hoping to secure an uptown location, there’s been tons of buzz online from those who want to see it in the old Bargain Shop at the top of King Street.
The cost of the building itself is just over $1.7M and is three floors plus a basement. The property is zoned for mixed use, however, the ground floor has to remain commercial. It is not designated as a heritage building. When we spoke with realtor Stephanie Turner last year she said that while the building has strong bones there is a lot of work to be done inside.
Turner, of Partners Global Corporate Real Estate, has a blog post pitching 91 King as a potential location for the new brewery and has even made a graphic of what it could look like.
“Moosehead has stated they’re looking for 10,000 sq ft, uptown preferably. There will be many considerations other than location, such as cost, loading, parking, etc,” Turner tells us. “I’m sure they will be taking a serious look at several locations. 91 King was just the first one that came to mind for me.”
Here are some of the social media posts about the location:
There might be other great locations but I can’t think of a better one, so far, for community impact than @91kingSJ https://t.co/fhU4GoPELf

There is a twitter profile for the location with the handle @91King. In the profile description it says, “I’m a lonely empty building on King Street in #uptownsj won’t somebody be my friend?”
Moosehead should be at the head of King Street #91King https://t.co/IDZyuAOqQc

I have no problem being filled up with beer, in fact I would very much like it. https://t.co/ikB3cLSMmD

The new Moosehead brewery will be a fully functioning brewery with a retail store that will sell beer and merchandise, and it will also include a tap room and full tourist experience.
