The number of fatal motorcycle crashes in the province since the beginning of the year is causing concern for biking enthusiasts.
Steve Richardson says he often chooses to ride his motorcycle on the outskirts of the city because there is less traffic.
But he says wherever he is riding, it’s important he keeps his eyes and ears open at all times.
“As a motorcyclist, you have to be very, very alert, because you have no protection,” says Richardson. “Now you have the ability to avoid, you’re smaller, you can hopefully an accident but you have to be looking around you.”
He says it is everyone’s responsibility to help prevent accidents, and especially double check for motorcycles because they can be harder to spot.
“Everybody’s just got to take that extra second to just look around,” says Richardson.
He is one of the thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts in the city, a community that is always looking our for each other.
“Unless you do it, you can’t understand it, I had a conversation with a friend of mine who’s a marathoner, and he said it’s the same thing, you can’t really explain it unless you do it,” says Richardson. And we just want everbody to be safe, as safe as you can.”
A campaign has been launched by motorcyclists, asking everyone to “Look Twice, Safe a Life.”
