It isn’t often that a dog goes missing for months, and then is reunited with its Owner. Obviously Ittera, the large black German Shepard finally wanted to come home.
She got loose in April and headed for the woods, and she was spotted several times. There were also many attempts to capture her, and She was finally trapped earlier this week.
Executive Director for the Greater Moncton SPCA Dave Rogers says Ittira appeared to be in good health, just a little thinner than when she went missing.
He says they don’t often see animals go missing for months at a time, “It’s not something that is common, that they go missing for that length of time. It may be once a year that we have one of these cases. Everyday on our website, we do get postings where people have lost a dog or a cat, but generally speaking, it is just a day or two.”
He says, “Even dogs who are very well trained to stay in the yard. They do, occasionally, instinct kicks in and they are going to bolt, and they take themselves for a run.” It’s important that you keep and eye on your pet at all times..
