The New Brunswick RCMP is alarmed over the number of deaths and critical injuries from crashes since the beginning of June.
Three people have died and seven people have been critically injured in seven separate crashes in that short amount of time.
“Summer is when we usually have our highest number of crashes, so to be only a week into June and to see this many is concerning,” says Staff Sergeant Gilles Blinn.
Police say in nearly every crash, speeding, driving drunk and/or high, not wearing a seatbelt, or some combination of these were major contributors in the deaths or injuries of these people. Staff Sgt Blinn says the ‘It can’t happen to me’ attitude is still out there.
“That attitude has to change or we’re going to continue knocking on doors to tell people their loved one is in hospital or not coming home for a reason that is so easily preventable.”
