The Department of Justice and Public Safety is reporting the seizure of more than 120,000 illegal cigarettes during an inspection as part of the International Roadcheck. The seizure was made in conjunction with Edmundston Police at the Saint-Jacques inspection facility.
Three people were arrested and the investigation continues.
The contraband tobacco market is estimated to represent a revenue loss to the province of $13 million annually.
The tax value to the province of the confiscated cigarettes is estimated at $27,000.
