Quispamsis native Matt Trivett is travelling all over the world announcing live video game tournaments.
Trivett announces for Counter-Strike, a first person shooter video game that’s been around since 1999.
Turner Broadcasting just started airing e-sports matches every Friday night in the US.
The first week brought in roughly 500,000 viewers.
Trivett says it’s already beating the NHL in ratings, with the NHL bringing in an average of 323,000 viewers on NBC in the US.
The NBA has an average of 800,000 viewers, which rises up to roughly 8 million in the playoffs.
Trivett got his start after he was asked to cover a charity event knowing he had done some announcing as a joke during his playing time.
He says the numbers are there to support it and says this is “just the start of the boom”.
The online division, which broadcasts through twitch.tv, had 1.4 million people watching the finals.
On top of the 1.4 million viewers, the arena where the Columbus Blue Jackets play was sold out for fans to watch the tournament live.
Trivett says the arena’s get as “emotional as any sporting event he’s ever attended”.
He says his career really broke out after covering the X-Games last January.
Trivett, also known as Sadokist on twitter and to the gaming world, says Romania has been his favourite spot he’s travelled to so far, but admits the worst part of the job is being away from his Dog due of the constant travelling.
