A beautification project that is part of the Marigold Project is underway at Kane’s Corner and is expected to be completed in about a week’s time.
Marigold Project founder Barry Ogden says four marigold gardens as well as trees, bushes and a sign are going to be put there. He says digging and putting in the flower beds has already begun, as has work with putting in the trees.
Ogden says this will rejuvenate the corner. He expects the entire project to be finished in just over a week’s time. For those who don’t know, Ogden also explained how Kane’s Corner got its name:
“Kane’s was the tombstone monument maker, that’s why it’s called Kane’s Corner. There used to be a great big company there, McAvity’s behind them which was the largest employment in World War I.”
A staff report from Common Council says that in the fall of last year Ogden approached staff with this proposal and it’s recommended that the proposed landscape improvements be allowed to go ahead.
