Saint John police are investigating the theft of four cast bronze commemorative plaques from the New Brunswick Museum Collections and Research Centre on Douglas Avenue.
The four plaques were created by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada and are federal Crown property. They were made to mark the contributions of Sir Charles Drury, John Hamilton Gray, George McCall Theal, and John Clarence Webster to Canada.
The five remaining plaques have been taken off the outside of the building and stored for the time being in the centre.
The stolen plaques are described as being reddish in colour, 30″ high by 27″ wide with bilingual text.
Police are also investigating property damage to the museum building.
