New Brunswick and Quebec are reaffirming their commitment to the French language.
On Friday, they announced the signing of a declaration which commits both governments to the promotion of the French language, and taking steps to maintain the demographic weight of francophones.
The declaration also recognizes the key role Acadians, Quebecois and francophones played in founding and building Canada.
La Francophonie Minister Francine Landry says this strengthens the partnership with Quebec on issues like francophone immigration, economic development, and education.
Quebec already has similar declarations in place with Ontario, Manitoba, and the Yukon.
