The Anglophone South School District Education Council hasn’t had any luck yet finding someone to fill the vacancy for the district that represents Grand Manan, Campobello Island and Deer Island.
DEC Chair Rob Fowler says they’ve been reaching out to people they know to see if they can get any interest but so far no takers.
He says it’s a difficult position because if you’re on the islands and want to attend a meeting then it’s a ferry ride and possibly even an overnight stay.
“The gentleman who had the position before was a very good DEC member, also a fisherman so he had to go by the season,” says Fowler. “His own personal opinion was he wasn’t able to commit the way he wanted to to do the job he thought he should do.”
Fowler does note that videoconferencing in a possibility which would mean the person wouldn’t necessarily have to travel when there is a DEC meeting.
