The life of a former Saint John mayor and MP Elsie Wayne, who has been described as ‘a political icon’ will be celebrated on the weekend and those who can’t make it in person will be able to watch it online.
RiverCross Church is going to be live-streaming the funeral which is happening on Saturday. Pastor Rob Nylen says Elsie has a special connection to the church.
“Elsie spent time early in her years in the old North End and was a member of Victoria Street Baptist Church,” says Nylen.
“And Victoria Street merged with Main Street Baptist in 1972 and three years ago Main Street changed its name to RiverCross Church and she’s been a member here through all those years.”
Nylen tells us she was often away quite a bit, but was always very supportive.
“This is her church family,” he says.
Elsie passed away at her home on Tuesday at the age of 84. Her funeral is at 11am at RiverCross Church and the live-stream will go live on Youtube at around 10:50am.
