There’s a kitten invasion at the Greater Moncton SPCA.
Executive Director Dave Rogers says they currently have about 35 kittens that are all under the age of 3 months.
He says, “This can put a financial strain on the organization. They may have some medical issues, with upper respiratory infections, and if they are very young, they have to be hand fed. We also may have to enlist the help of foster families.”
Rogers says all kittens also have to be spayed or neutered before they go to their forever home.
What is even more distressing for Rogers, is that some of the kittens were turned in to the SPCA by someone who found them on St. George Street in a cardboard box. He recommends, “If your cat does have a litter of kittens, and you are unable to care for them, bring them in to the SPCA. Don’t just leave them somewhere to hopefully be found.”
The good thing about kittens, Rogers says, is they tend to find homes quickly because they are so cute.
