The Maritime Greyhound Adoption program has placed hundreds of rescued greyhounds since it was founded in 2003.
President Deb Levasseur says they have brought over 60 dogs to Canada this year alone…When they arrive, they receive lots of love right from the start, “All of our dogs go into foster homes where they get the initial socialization and training and adjustment from track life to home life, which is really beneficial.”
Fostering helps the dogs to transition from racing to retirement, as they move from kennel living at the track, into their forever home.
Levasseur says fostering could last anywhere between a week and a couple of months.
It has been a busy year for the program. They have already found home for over 60 greyhounds. Levasseur says people really enjoy the foster program because they find it really rewarding.
