Current and former Mayors along with Former Premiers Frank McKenna and Bernard Lord gathering in Saint John to remember Elsie Wayne at her funeral service.
Former Federal Conservative leader Jean Charest and the other member of the two member caucus they formed following the 1993 election.
Charest says they were both shell-shocked and in their first meeting she said to him “I guess it’s up to you and me Jean”.
He says he quickly he learned what everyone in Saint John already knew, that the heavens had sent me the all time Canadian champion of lost causes.
Charest says Elsie is well known across Canada by only her first name. He called that quite an accomplishment in political life.

Monsignor Brian Sheehan said for many years he had a great friendship with her not only through their mutual love of Saint John but also because they shared a mutual friend in Brian Mosher-Elsie’s longtime campaign manager.
