There were just shy of 500 people in attendance at RiverCross Church in Saint John over the weekend to celebrate the life of colourful political figure Elsie Wayne, and another 500 people watched a livestream of the funeral.
That is according to pastor Rob Nylen from the church which hosted the livestream. The video has been uploaded online and as of Monday morning has over 2000 views.
Former federal Progressive Conservative leader Jean Charest and Elsie were the only two members of the PC party left standing in the 1993 election.
Charest delivered the eulogy and called Elsie the ‘all-time Canadian champion of lost causes.’
Elsie, who along with being an MP for Saint John was also the mayor of the city, passed away last week at the age of 84.
