The National Energy Board deciding to adjourn hearings on Energy East in Montreal this week.
The decision has been made as a result of a violent disruption on the first day of the proceedings and security concerns.
The NEB says disruptions like this compromise the Board’s ability to conduct the session in a secure manner and prevent intervenors from having an opportunity to be heard, share their views and ask questions.
They add all participants in this hearing have a right to be heard and with respect.
The NEB receiving a letter from a Quebec group on August 22nd, which included 7 requests, many of them relating to having the hearing panel recused.
They also received a notice of motion from Transition Initiative Kenora who request that NEB members Gauthier and Mercier recuse themselves.
Because written submissions on this are being accepted until September 7th, the hearings will not proceed until the Board has made a decision on these matters.
