Census 2016 set a record as the most successful census in the history of Canada with an overall response rate of 98.4%.
That’s according to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains.

He says that means the government has the high quality information they need to make informed decisions about critical services like housing, child care and public transportation.
When it came to the internet response, Canadians set another record with a rate of 68.3%
That beat the initial objective of 65%.
Bains adds the fantastic response rate is a vindication of the Liberal decision to reinstate the long form census after the previous Conservative government scrapped it.
The success of Census 2016 was also a demonstration of Canadians commitment to evidence based decision making says Bains.
Within six months, Statistics Canada will publish initial results.
