A naming committee will be reaching out to the public this fall for suggestions on what to name the new West side school in Saint John, which will house about 470 students from Havelock, St. Patrick’s and Seawood.
Anglophone South School District superintendant Zoe Watson says anyone can submit an idea for the school.
“We’ll have it set up on our website, so that that is the vehicle for submitting your suggestion and a little explanation of why you’ve made that suggestion,” says Watson.
They went through this process with the new Chris Saunders Memorial School in Quispamsis and received close to 100 suggestions.
After the deadline passes, the committee will look at the submissions and select three of those to be forwarded on to the Minister of Education Brian Kenny who will be making the final decision on the name.
Things are on track with the school, which has a tentative opening date of September of next year. It is situated at the corner of Havelock Street and Fundy Drive.
