Labour Day is not just another holiday for the people working in the labour movement.
For union membership and executive, Labour Day is about respecting the sacrifices of those working in years past.
Patrick Colford of the New Brunswick Federation of Labour says the labour movement and union and non-union workers have found hard for many rights we enjoy today.
He says those rights include an 8-hour workday, overtime pay, health and safety standards, benefits and more.
The Saint John and District Labour Council is hosting their annual parade leaving at noon from the Carmarthen street fire station.
A free bbq will follow at Fisher Lakes in Rockwood Park.
In Moncton, the annual picnic is underway at Centennial Park until 3pm today.
