The New Brunswick Heart Centre has a new clinical head of cardiac surgery.
Dr. Jean Francois Légaré worked for 13 years as a cardiac surgeon for the Maritime Heart Centre in Halifax also acting as director of research and director of cardiac transplantation in the cardiac surgery division.
When it comes to his goals, Dr. Légaré says they are three-fold with the first being addressing wait time issues, the second being quality of care and the third being promoting innovation, education and research.
He says over the last 25 years, the NB Heart Centre, which is located in the Saint John Regional Hospital, has become an outstanding centre of excellence for cardiac care with a good reputation in patient care and innovation.
“The reason they’ve achieved that I think is a lot to do with the people they have here and the team that they’ve assembled over time,” he says. “And so when the opportunity came to be part of that team, I really wanted to. I wanted to be part of that group. I wanted to be part of what they’re doing.”
This role was previously occupied by Dr. Marc Pelletier.
