The provincial government has released its plan to grow the economy which includes more immigration, innovation and greater private investment money which declined from 2012 to 2015.
The province’s chief economist David Campbell says the economic development model in New Brunswick needs to adapt. He maintains New Brunswick will have to embrace the increasingly global nature of the economy with the goal being to attract globalĀ investment, talent, new ideas and workers. Campell argues urban centres in the province have to become engines of economic growth as cities in other parts of the country have with not only jobs but being seen as great places to live.
New Brunswick has struck a committee to explore economic development opportunities stemming from marijuana. The province says legalization and control of marijuana will significantly expand the industry across the country.
Premier Brian Gallant says cybersecurity has the potential to create hundreds of new, high value jobs. The global cybersecurity market is estimated at $75 billion but is expected to grow to $170 billion by 2020.
