After being off limits over the summer, Mispec Beach is back open to the public.
Common Councillor Ray Strowbridge says he’s excited to see the beach reopen, but admits he’s afraid history will repeat itself.
The city installed new stairs that can be removed during off-season at a cost of roughly $40,000.
Strowbridge says even with the new removable stairs, City engineers and staff have told council there’s “no guarantee surrounding the future of the beach”.
He says you can’t fight mother nature and hopes the new stairs will at least help avoid constant repairs.
The beach was closed to the public after it was found to be unsafe by City of Saint John engineers.
Roughly $250,000 was spent on repairs a few years ago, but a storm early this year destroyed a lot of the infrastructure.
