Don’t give up on the historic synagogue at the corner of Wellington Row and Carleton Street just yet.
That word coming from architect Bob Boyce who chairs the city’s Heritage Development Board. This, despite talk about demolition now that Common Council declared the property surplus.
Boyce says the city may have given up on the property but it could be transformed into office space by creative types or a restaurant.
He concedes turning it into apartments would be more difficult but he points out Keith Brideau of Historica has been successful in transforming old buildings in the city into living space.
Realtor Bob McVicar, who ran for Mayor several years ago, has tweeted the city did not use the services of professional realtors in its effort to sell the property. The city bought it for half a million dollars in 2008.
