The provincial government is allowing the use of crossbows to hunt deer for the 2016 season.
Resource Development Minister Rick Doucet says hunting is a big part of the social and economic fabric of rural New Brunswick.
This marks the first year crossbows may be used in the deer archery season which runs from October 3rd to the 22nd.
Crossbows used in the deer hunt must have a minimum draw weight of 68 kilograms, and be fitted with broadheads no less than 20 millimetres in width.
It’s also illegal to carry a cocked and loaded crossbow on any vehicle including ATVs and snowmobiles.
