He would have been considered a favourite to assume the leadership of the Federal Conservative Party but Peter MacKay has decided not to go for it.
MacKay released a statement saying he thought about running over the summer but decided not to because of the time it would take away from his family. MacKay’s children are 3 and 11 months old.
MacKay led the Progressive Conservative Party before it merged with the Canadian Alliance. He then stepped aside in favour of Stephen Harper and became a federal cabinet minister.
