St. Joseph’s Hospital is now smoke free.
You can see the signs outside as you enter the hospital. Ph.D candidate Carrie Luck of U-N-B Saint John helped Horizon Health implement the policy.
She says smokers who are admitted are offered the option of nicotine withdrawal management.
It comes in the form of a patch or an inhaler with clean forms of nicotine and minus the 7000 chemicals you find in cigarette smoke and and it’s up to them if they want to use it.
Luck says most smokers have been open to the idea. She points to research showing 70 per cent of smokers want to quit.
