The results of the 2016 citizen survey for Saint John have been released and are coming up before Common Council at an open Committee of the Whole meeting.
The results show, among other things, that there’s no consensus from Saint Johners when it comes to what should be done about the tax rate.
28-percent of people want to reduce services to maintain the tax level, 20-percent want to increase taxes to expand services, another 20-percent want to increase taxes to maintain services, and 19-percent want to reduce services to reduce taxes.
15-percent don’t know or don’t agree with any of the options.
A lower tax rate, however, was idenfied as one of the top 10 priority areas to focus on this year, as was attracting new business and industries and poverty reduction.
People are happier overall this year compared to four years ago with the services and programs provided by the city.
