One of the most celebrated writers in Canadian literature is being awarded a prestigious honour.
Acadian novelist, playwright, scholar and broadcaster Antonine Maillet is the winner of the 2016 Symons Medal.
The medal is presented each year to a distinguished person who has made an exceptional contribution to Canadian life.
Maillet is one of the most respected figures in French language literature in the country, especially when it comes to representing the Acadian people.
Her 1971 play La Sagouine is a celebration of the colourful and distinctive Acadian culture.
As well, it is the inspiration for the Bouctouche tourist attraction Le Pays De La Sagouine pictured below.
Maillet has written more than 20 novels, numerous plays, and several translations which is considered an immense contribution to Canadian literature.
