The provincial government is coming to the aid of the trucking industry by providing up to $200,000 to address a severe labour shortage.
Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association executive director Jean-Marc Picard says hundreds of jobs are going unfilled in the industry.
Picard says the industry needs to raise its profile and launch recruiting campaigns so people are aware of what kinds of opportunities are available.
“We want to develop an action plan that will enable us to really close that gap between people that are looking for work and getting them into the trucking industry,” he notes.
Picard adds the industry is coping but labour shortages are having an impact with some companies losing contracts or having trucks sit idle since they can’t find drivers.
