More young people in the province have to be persuaded to start up their own businesses.
That word coming from the Chief Economist with the Business Development Bank, Pierre Cleroux who points out our aging population has resulted in 7.3% fewer businesses operating in New Brunswick as of 2013 compared to 2001.
That’s well below a 20% increase nationally.
As for the businesses left standing, Cleroux says there are three factors which make them thrive: Investing more, being more productive and exporting outside the province.
Cleroux is more optimistic about the New Brunswick economy, saying it will grow next year with more job creation.
He also expects the Canadian economy, as a whole, to perform better next year, claiming the worst is over with the dramatic decline in oil prices.
