With the number of armed robberies in the City of Moncton in recent months, comes a reminder from the RCMP not to take things into your own hands.
Codiac RCMP Staff Sergeant Eric LaRose says if you are faced with someone who is trying to take money from you while using force” Don’t risk you life, by handing the situation yourself. Obey all commands. If a person is asking you for money, for your own safety, we ask that you obey all their commands for your own safety.”
LaRose says sometimes people let their pride get in the way in these situations, “When we talk about safety, pride should be your last prioroty. Your well being should be your first priority.”
He adds, “You never really know what the motivation behind a robbery is. Depending on the situation, if you refuse someone who is threatening you, you could end up being seriously injured or even murdered.”
It’s also advised that you contact the RCMP or 911 immediately after the incident occurs.
