The Health Minister says it wasn’t a lie — just a misunderstanding.
Victor Bourdreau tells us, when Horizon sent out a release last week saying services would remain the same at the Charlotte County Hospital, it was meant to be from that day on — and not where services were at before the closure of the OR was announced.
Boudreau says the one area that has been lost in St. Stephen is any procedures requiring general anesthesia, which only accounts for 14 % of the surgical procedures done in St. Stephen the past few years. “There was, I think an impression that there was more lost than what was actually lost. In fact, 86 percent of what was happening in the OR at the Charlotte County Hospital is still happening, and will continue to happen.”
The Health Minister says the focus will now be on implementing recommendations from the 2013 Community Health Needs Assessment for St. Stephen and surrounding communities.
