The founder and CEO of Saint John-based film production company Hemmings House calls sustainability the most paramount thing that they strive towards, but that it’s still a work in progress.
Greg Hemmings delivered a presentation at a Sustainability Saint John event about the idea of sustainability in business, where he told a crowd at Connexion Works that his personal passion is ethical business.
The company is a certified B Corp company which means, among other things, they meet certain environmental and social standards.
“Every two years we have to measure how much carbon did we use to travel to produce our films, how much social good did we do in our communities,” says Hemmings. “All these things are connected into a score that we monitor on a weekly, monthly basis.”
Hemmings says it’s very important to measure positive and negative impacts on the society and the planet as we build businesses and profit.
“It’s critical to measure of it, because if you don’t know the negative impacts that your company is creating, how can you figure out what sort of positive investments you need to make?”
Hemmings suggests checking out the B Corp website for any company looking to become more sustainable to measure the impacts of your company.
